The 104th Precinct Civilian Observation Patrol, more widely known as, The Glendale Civilian Observation Patrol, Inc. (G-COP); originally started by four Glendale residents whom wanted to preserve the way of life of their community that they loved. Starting with just four concerned residents the 104COP has grown into a strong group of volunteers that reside within the borders of Glendale, Ridgewood, Middle Village and Maspeth which currently is the largest Civilian Observation Group in the City of New York.
For over 35 years the 104th Precinct Civilian Observation Patrol, (104COP), has been the extended eyes and ears for the NYPD in the precinct. 104COP is the oldest, largest and most active civilian patrol in the City of New York. 104COP members don’t complain about crime, they do something about it. 104COP members are not vigilantes. We patrol the streets of our neighborhood and via radio report all police, fire or medical emergencies to the proper authorities.
Due to the lack of police manpower in the 104th Precinct, 104COP urges all concerned residents of Glendale, Ridgewood, and Maspeth & Middle Village to help us preserve, protect and enhance the quality of life in our communities. Get involved in your community today!!
During the course of a normal day the local NYPD is contacted numerous times a day for a multitude of requests. When disaster strikes or even a local event the Police Department is sometimes stretched beyond its limit. That is where the Civilian Observation Patrol comes in.
The 104COP assists the community by allowing the Police to address more pressing issues while we handle the Traffic (i.e. Parades, Funerals, Natural Disasters, etc). In addition, we help the community in searching for Missing Persons and neighborhood Patrols.
